The journey of Nathan (43), Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Great Bath (Pool and Spa Professional), stands as an inspiring example of entrepreneurship, determination, and resilience. Raised in a modest apartment community in Cheras, Nathan has successfully built Great Bath into one of Malaysia’s leading one-stop solution providers for swimming pool and spa services.
Great Bath serves a diverse market segment including luxury homeowners, first-time pool buyers, existing pool owners, and commercial pool management clients across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Putrajaya, and Negeri Sembilan.
Growing up in a multiracial apartment environment in Cheras played a significant role in shaping Nathan’s confidence and business network. He credits his upbringing for helping him connect with people from various backgrounds—many of whom later became his customers.
“My father was my first inspiration. From him, I learned the values of honesty, dedication, and discipline,” Nathan said.
“I grew up in a multiracial community, met many people, and they eventually supported me when I started my business.”
Nathan began his career in the swimming pool industry in 2008 as a pool operator, starting from zero without significant capital. Through consistent service quality and the continued trust of his clients, he gradually shifted his focus to swimming pool construction, leading to the establishment of Great Bath.
Reflecting on the COVID-19 pandemic, Nathan described it as the most challenging period of his business journey. Operations were restricted and finances were affected. However, Great Bath continued essential services during the pandemic with special approval from authorities.
“Without proper pool water sanitisation, stagnant water can become a breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes, increasing the risk of dengue. Customer safety has always been our top priority,” he explained.
Today, Great Bath employs 40 staff members and is fully registered with SSM and CIDB. The company is also a preferred service provider for property developers, property management companies, and luxury homeowners.
For Nathan, true success is measured not by the number of clients, but by the trust built over time.
“Most of my clients have been with me for more than 10 years. Maintaining long-term relationships is not easy. Their trust defines my success,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of keeping up with the latest technologies in the pool industry. Nathan has independently invested in overseas reference materials, attended international training programs, and participated in global expos to continuously enhance his technical expertise.
Beyond business growth, Great Bath remains committed to corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, including festive hamper distributions, sports team sponsorships, and animal adoption programs.
“We don’t just build a business. We build people, and people build our business,” Nathan added.
