Selangor, Malaysia – Despite being the nation’s most developed and economically vibrant state, Selangor is confronting a growing and urgent challenge: the rise of social issues among its youth population. Increasing cases of school dropouts, unemployment, juvenile crime, and substance abuse are raising alarm among policymakers, educators, and community leaders. Recent data shows that Selangor continues to record one of the highest numbers of juvenile crime cases in the country, with youths aged 16 to 18 forming the largest group of offenders. At the same time, more young people are leaving school early, contributing to a rising segment of NEET youth—those not in education, employment, or training. Experts attribute these trends to financial hardship, lack of direction, and limited access to practical, career-focused education pathways. Without timely and targeted intervention, many of these youths face a trajectory of long-term unemployment, social exclusion, and heightened exposure to crime and substance abuse.

In a decisive move to address these challenges, DHS Hospitality Academy has joined forces with Yayasan Selangor to launch a high-impact, fully sponsored youth empowerment initiative. This strategic partnership between DHS and Yayasan Selangor is more than a training effort—it is a mission to rescue, rebuild, and reposition at-risk youth into productive members of society.

Two Pathways. One Mission: Transformation

1. 12-Month Industry-Driven Program in Malaysia

The first pathway is a 12-month intensive hospitality training program, designed specifically for youths aged 16 to 25 who have disengaged from the formal education system.

Delivered through a structured, hands-on approach, the program includes:

  • Hospitality training in Food & Beverage, Front Office, and Housekeeping
  • Real-world, practical learning aligned with industry standards
  • Life skills and character development, focusing on discipline, confidence, and communication
  • Internship placements to ensure immediate industry exposure

Graduates emerge with recognized skills, certifications, and job readiness, enabling them to transition directly into employment. “This is not just about training—it is about transformation,” as emphasized by Dr S. Sri Kumar President of Malaysian Hospitality Association. “Together with Yayasan Selangor, we are giving youth a second chance at life, equipping them with purpose, structure, and a clear pathway forward.”

2. 15-Month International Diploma Program in Singapore – For high-performing candidates, DHS and Yayasan Selangor offer a 15-month fully sponsored diploma pathway in Singapore.

This premium track delivers:

  • Diploma-level qualifications in hospitality
  • Exposure to global industry standards and best practices
  • Professional growth in an international learning environment
  • Access to regional and global career opportunities

The program is designed to elevate participants from vulnerable backgrounds into globally competitive professionals, capable of thriving in the international hospitality industry.

The DHS–Yayasan Selangor collaboration represents a shift toward preventive, skills-based intervention—targeting the root causes of youth vulnerability rather than reacting to its consequences. Through this initiative:

  • School dropouts are reintegrated into structured, meaningful learning pathways
  • Unemployed youth gain employable skills within a year
  • At-risk individuals are redirected into disciplined, goal-oriented environments

This model not only improves individual outcomes but also contributes to reducing crime rates, strengthening communities, and enhancing social stability across Selangor. As Selangor navigates the complexities of youth-related social challenges, the DHS and Yayasan Selangor initiative is emerging as a powerful model for replication across Malaysia.

By combining:

  • Public trust and community reach of Yayasan Selangor, and
  • Industry expertise and training excellence of DHS Hospitality Academy,

the partnership demonstrates how collaborative, purpose-driven action can create lasting, scalable impact. Turning Vulnerability into Opportunity. At its core, this initiative is a nation-building platform. It proves that with the right support, guidance, and opportunity:

  • At-risk youth can become skilled professionals
  • Dropouts can become industry contributors
  • Vulnerability can be transformed into value and leadership

As Selangor continues its journey toward inclusive progress, the collaboration between DHS Hospitality Academy and Yayasan Selangor stands as a beacon of hope—ensuring that no young person is left behind, and every life has a pathway to success.
